The mentor program is made up of actual survivors of domestic violence. They are chosen by the determination to succeed and desire to help others. Many have walked the same path that the victims they will be helping as recent as 12 months ago.
The mentors have succeeded to maneuver the court system, gotten out of the shelter and successful in leaving their abusers and are successful in their new lives. Some have children and some are single with no children. Some mentors are locals and some are implants from other states who have chosen South Carolina to start their new lives.
The mentor is connected to a victim that is a close match to their own past situation to increase the chances of a successful union. The program is voluntary and no one is forced to participate in the mentorship program.
